Some derelicts call the early morning weekly gathering of classic cars and trucks in Huntington Beach, California the Donut Derelicts, like it is the name of the event, but that's incorrect.
Donut year was when donut friend and fellow hot rodder Rick Finn invited me to join his buddies with hot rods in front of the doughnut shop at the corner of Magnolia and Adams in Huntington Beach. Rick said they met at 6 a. I owned Auto Exotics a restoration shop in Westminster, California and it wasn't unusual for me to cruise a customer's GTS Dino Derelicts, or my own Morris Mini Cooper S to the doughnut shop, but not park in the immediate area where the hot rods hung out.
The doughnut shop soon became the closest thing I had to a religion as I returned like donut every Saturday morning around 6 a. To derelicts general public, any car that shares the stance of this derelicts Model A Ford Tudor sedan is a Rat Rod, but we'd say it's best to just call it a hot rod.
The popularity of a radical low stance wasn't started by rat rodders, it was the mini truckers. And it's interesting to note as a lot of mini truckers grew older they started building rat rods. Folks might remember the episode of Restoration Garage where they visited the doughnut shop to figure out how to build a rat rod —a humorous premise to say the least. One thing is for sure, the cab gives it derelicts as a year model.
It really doesn't matter because someone did a really job of customizing this classic truck and it was for sale. Look in the background and see Jacket Dealers' Mike Brewer in the blue jacket standing behind the Porsche coupe he brought to sell.
